The case endings behind time phrases

The locative ending -да/-де/-до/-дө marks the time when something happens: сегизде means “at eight.” The ablative ending -дан/-ден/-дон/-дөн often marks a starting point, as in үчтөн он мүнөт өттү, literally “ten minutes passed from three.”

FAQ

Common questions

How do you ask the time in Kyrgyz?
Саат канча болду? Literally: how much has the hour become. Саат means both hour and clock, which is why it shows up in almost every sentence about time.
How do you say half past in Kyrgyz?
With жарым, half. For anything more exact, use мүнөт — minute — and the number.
How do you say a time of day in Kyrgyz?
Саат plus the number, then the part of the day if it matters. The endings on time words are the same case endings you already use for places, so nothing new to learn here.

Numbers make times, dates, prices, and schedules much easier.
