The short answer

No. Duolingo’s current course list does not include Kyrgyz. Duolingo says it offers more than 100 courses teaching over 40 languages overall.

Availability note: checked August 30, 2026 against Duolingo’s live course list. This establishes what is available now; it does not establish the platform’s complete course history or future plans.

02

What Duolingo says about new languages

Duolingo does not give a Kyrgyz-specific reason in the official materials reviewed. Its general FAQ says the company is putting more resources into new content and learning tools for existing courses.

Claims that Kyrgyz is absent because demand is too low, a course would not pay for itself, or no university, government or foundation has funded it are therefore speculation, not a stated explanation from Duolingo.

03

What about Memrise?

Memrise does offer Kyrgyz vocabulary practice. Its Kyrgyz page describes the material as word lists created by users rather than a standard structured course authored by Memrise.

The accurate shorthand is “user-made Kyrgyz word lists”, not “no Kyrgyz on Memrise”.

What people use instead

The major structured-course catalogues checked above do not currently include Kyrgyz. Available Kyrgyz-specific resources differ in scope, so compare them by what they cover: vocabulary, audio, grammar, textbook lessons or conversation practice.

  • 50Languages – around a hundred free lessons with audio, in the browser and as an app. Phrases with no explanation, but free and spoken aloud.
  • Live Lingua – three free courses with ebooks and audio. The old-fashioned textbook: dense, thorough, not a picture in sight.
  • uTalk – a paid app covering beginner topics: first words, food, numbers, the body, telling the time. Recorded by native speakers.
  • Söz – our app, built for Kyrgyz from the ground up: a daily feed of words in real sentences, audio, grammar, and review timed to your memory.
  • A person – a tutor, a relative, a language exchange. Nothing replaces a conversation, though you can turn up to one prepared.

What you can do today

The official sources reviewed do not provide a Kyrgyz release date for Duolingo. If you want to begin now, choose a currently available Kyrgyz resource and treat any future Duolingo course as unconfirmed.

Starting, on the other hand, takes an evening. Learn the three letters Russian Cyrillic does not have: ң, ө and ү. Then take a dozen words – not as a list, but inside whole sentences, so you can see how they behave.
